Home Essay Series Christian contentment
Contentment — Rich Without Getting Everything You Want is a ten-part KJV-based Bible study examining what genuine biblical contentment looks like when circumstances do not cooperate with our desires. Beginning with Paul’s declaration, “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Philippians 4:11), the series distinguishes contentment from laziness, passivity, poverty worship, lack of ambition, and the false promises of prosperity religion. It confronts covetousness, comparison, consumerism, restless ambition, and the endless belief that one more possession, achievement, relationship, opportunity, or answered prayer will finally make life complete. The studies also address contentment in poverty and prosperity, singleness and marriage, employment and ministry, unanswered prayer, chronic physical weakness, aging, and seasons of irreversible change. Throughout the series, passages including Philippians 4, 2 Corinthians 6 and 12, Hebrews 13, 1 Timothy 6, and other KJV Scriptures demonstrate that Christian contentment is not pretending hardship does not hurt; it is refusing to let hardship, possessions, desires, or circumstances take the place that belongs to Christ. Readers will come away with a clearer biblical understanding of stewardship, gratitude, godly ambition, suffering, sufficiency, and the spiritual wealth of being able to say that Christ remains enough whether life brings abundance or need.
